Vienna Doctoral School of Ecology and Evolution

The Vienna Doctoral School of Ecology and Evolution is devoted to educating students in advancing our knowledge on the ecology and evolution of extant and ancestral organisms, populations and communities. In Ecology, the ambition is to better understand the mechanistic and evolutionary drivers of patterns and processes from gene regulation to the structure and function of ecosystems and the impact of communities on the biogeochemical cycles and their adaptive capacity in response to environmental change. In Evolution, we address the evolutionary processes leading to changes in organization and temporal dynamics of organisms, populations and species at the molecular, developmental, morphological and physiological level.

VDSEE Symposium 2026

Join us for the VDSEE Symposium 2026

We are excited to announce the 3rd annual VDSEE Symposium on 27 February 2026!

This is an opportunity for members of our Doctoral School to share their latest research achievements with their peers and the larger university community.

Attendees can look forward to an engaging program of poster presentations and talks delivered by our own PhD students, PIs and external speakers.

Coming back: In the evening before the Symposium, 26.02.26, we're hosting again an Arts&Science event at the UBB!

Meet your colleagues for a drink and get inspired by the diversity of research at the VDSEE. We're inviting all VDSEE-members to get creative and display their research in the form of paintings, drawings, photography, microscopy, sculptures, audio, video, text, etc. Collaborations are very welcome! There will be a goodie for all exhibitors.

Save the date! – Early 2026!
